The sun came out just in time for a lovely celebratory lunch at Gasthaus Weißenbeck in hashtag#Bergkirchen hashtag#Bayern.
The last time I was there, my daughter must have been barely 3 years old. I have memories of her crouching down watching insects crawling on the gravel by the garden, surrounded by bushes in bloom. Today was another heavenly moment amongst the roses, oleanders, hydrangeas, agapanthus, lavender and buzzing bees.
Thinking of the journey that led me to advocate for diversity and inclusion in business, I know that what drives is knowing it’s all about making things easier for all the girls that come after us.
My daughter shared with me a shocking speech of some famous person at some prominent university who highlighted that despite graduating, the women were yet to start their life journey when they become mothers and homemakers (will share link when I have it). It made me cringe – as it did many, and many more distanced themselves from the statements made).
What does this tell me? There is still a long way to go for women to be free to embrace whichever path in life they chose, without others having a preconceived view of what their lives should look like.
And so we continue to use our voices to pave the way for a brighter future for all girls. Allow me to add: I am so terribly proud of my daughter as she pursues her studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and shines brightly every step of the way. Go, darling. You’ve got this.
